Candidate Qualifying

All candidates must qualify during this window. State candidates qualify at the Secretary of State’s office, 8585 Archives Ave., Baton Rouge, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Local candidates qualify with their parish clerk of court.

Early Voting

Early voting runs 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m. daily, excluding Sunday October 25. Any registered voter may vote early at a designated location.

U.S. Senate — General Election

Louisiana U.S. Senate Seat

Louisiana voters will elect a new U.S. Senator to replace two-term incumbent Bill Cassidy, who was defeated in the May 16 Republican primary. The general election features the winners of the June 27 party runoffs.

Republican runoff (June 27): John Fleming vs. Julia Letlow
Democratic runoff (June 27): Gary Crockett vs. Jamie Davis

U.S. House — Open Primary

All 6 Congressional Districts

Under Act 7 of the 2026 Regular Legislative Session, U.S. House races were moved to Louisiana’s traditional open primary on November 3. Voters of all parties participate together. Candidates qualify August 5–7.

If no candidate receives a majority, a runoff will be held December 12, 2026.

Bring a Valid Photo ID

Louisiana requires a valid photo ID to vote. Accepted forms include a Louisiana driver’s license, state ID, U.S. military ID, or U.S. passport.

Vote early (Oct. 20–27, 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m., no Sundays), by absentee ballot (request by Oct. 30), or in person on Election Day (6 a.m.–8 p.m.).

Louisiana absentee voting requires a qualifying reason unless you are military or overseas. Source: sos.la.gov

Who Qualifies for Absentee Voting?

  • Temporarily outside the state during early voting and on Election Day
  • Moved after registration books closed, more than 100 miles from former parish
  • Sequestered jury member
  • Hospitalized or restricted to bed on Election Day
  • Out of precinct due to employment or occupation during early voting and on Election Day
  • Military or overseas voters (separate deadlines apply)
