Key Dates & Deadlines
All dates are official per the Louisiana Secretary of State. Missing a deadline means missing your vote.
Candidate Qualifying
All candidates must qualify during this window. State candidates qualify at the Secretary of State’s office, 8585 Archives Ave., Baton Rouge, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Local candidates qualify with their parish clerk of court.
Register to Vote (In-Person, Mail & OMV)
Last day to register to vote in person, by mail, or at a Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles location.
Register to Vote (Online)
Last day to register through the GeauxVote Online Registration System. You must have a Louisiana driver’s license or state ID.
Early Voting
Early voting runs 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m. daily, excluding Sunday October 25. Any registered voter may vote early at a designated location.
Absentee Ballot Request Deadline
Request must be received by 4:30 p.m. Request online through the Voter Portal or in writing through your Registrar of Voters office.
Absentee Ballot Return Deadline
Voted absentee ballots must be received by your Registrar of Voters by 4:30 p.m. (non-military/overseas voters).
Election Day
Polls are open 6 a.m.–8 p.m. If you are in line by 8 p.m., you have the right to vote. Find your polling place at the Louisiana Voter Portal.
Runoff Election (If Needed)
If no candidate receives a majority on November 3, a runoff will be held December 12, 2026.
What’s on the Ballot
Two major federal races will appear on every Louisiana voter’s ballot on November 3.
Louisiana U.S. Senate Seat
Louisiana voters will elect a new U.S. Senator to replace two-term incumbent Bill Cassidy, who was defeated in the May 16 Republican primary. The general election features the winners of the June 27 party runoffs.
Republican runoff (June 27): John Fleming vs. Julia Letlow
Democratic runoff (June 27): Gary Crockett vs. Jamie Davis
All 6 Congressional Districts
Under Act 7 of the 2026 Regular Legislative Session, U.S. House races were moved to Louisiana’s traditional open primary on November 3. Voters of all parties participate together. Candidates qualify August 5–7.
If no candidate receives a majority, a runoff will be held December 12, 2026.
How to Vote
Every registered Louisiana voter will have something on their ballot November 3.
Register to Vote
Register online by October 13, or in person/by mail by October 5. You must have a Louisiana driver’s license or state ID to use the GeauxVote online system.
Bring a Valid Photo ID
Louisiana requires a valid photo ID to vote. Accepted forms include a Louisiana driver’s license, state ID, U.S. military ID, or U.S. passport.
Choose How to Vote
Vote early (Oct. 20–27, 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m., no Sundays), by absentee ballot (request by Oct. 30), or in person on Election Day (6 a.m.–8 p.m.).

Who Qualifies for Absentee Voting?
- Temporarily outside the state during early voting and on Election Day
- Moved after registration books closed, more than 100 miles from former parish
- Sequestered jury member
- Hospitalized or restricted to bed on Election Day
- Out of precinct due to employment or occupation during early voting and on Election Day
- Military or overseas voters (separate deadlines apply)
